As you all know, I am a big believer in getting rid of things in your wardrobe that don't serve you and selling them off to fund your new season purchases. I've done it for years, BUT there are some items that come into your wardrobe that will stay with you forever. My red suede knee high boots from Briarwood have now been in my wardrobe for 14 years, I bought them when I was at uni and felt like such a grown up. My Cath Kidston Floral Satchel epitomises my time in London for me, and eight years later it's still going strong. My aunties silver dangly earrings from the 1970's are still in my jewellery box and will be forever.
The Full Length Bias Slip from NZ Plus size label Lost and Led Astray, is one such piece. When I saw this print pop up on Instagram I literally gasped. I am in love with print, it makes me smile. And this one is exceptional. Sarah Jane who owns and designs Lost and Led Astray, created this print herself. She conceived it then had a graphic designer create it on a computer which was then printed onto this gorgeous heavy viscose. This dress actually brings me joy, whenever I put it on I feel fabulous. Lost and led Astray creates designer clothes in sizes 10-26.
The plus size clothing industry is a tricky one - especially in New Zealand. A lot of plus size women grew up in a time where they didn't have a range of designer labels available to them, and so they aren't used to paying designer prices. But if you want something timeless that fits you like a dream, that has been designed by an artist with your body in mind and will never wear out, then sometimes it is best to buy better and buy less. And investing in something that makes you feel happy every time you put it on is an investment well worth making.
Sometimes you have to ask yourself, do I need 5 more t-shirts this season, or shall I invest in something stunning? (HEY, put the t-shirts DOWN!)
I'm planning on being buried in this dress with my Trelise Cooper Floral Coat. Print on print of course!
I would love to hear about the special pieces that have been in your wardrobe for years.
Dressing Up - Because YOU are the special occasion.
