As you may have read (check out Part 1 here!) 4.5 years after moving into our house we are finally starting our bedroom makeover! It is all taking so much longer than I'd hoped (life, babies, work!) but I am finally getting somewhere! I started by selling our old bed frame, as it was completely overwhelming the room. I got $300 for it online, I was so pleased with that price!
I then found this really lovely grey sleigh bed at Big Save Furniture (the 'Alice' bed) for $499.
I have just figured out how to take panoramas on my phone so I can actually show you the whole room. Look how much bigger it looks without the four poster bed! You can see from this angle what a waste of space those little bedside tables are too, I'm looking forward to replacing them with much wider drawers to give us some more storage.
I've been looking a lot at Pinterest to get ideas about colour schemes and have been changing my mind daily! But then I found the gorgeous palette below and I think I'm sold. I'm also having a window box made for our bay window which is going to be such a wonderful little nook to relax in, although I am going to try and get drawers built in so poor James actually has somewhere to put his clothes! I'm going to take this project to Henry at the Menz Shed and see if they can help me out.
The team at Foxtrot Home have come on board to help me with some stunning new bedding and seeing their range completely sold me on the palette I'd chosen. I'm loving that crisp pale blue against the texture of the denim - we're adding stripy sheets for total luxury! Prue and Katie are sisters and just recently started Foxtrot Home to offer their customers luxury French Flax Linen at an affordable price. I love supporting other Kiwi women in business! I have never had such beautiful high quality bedding, and now at 34 I'm so excited to feel like I'm going to have a 'grown up' room.
Now don't tease me for my drawing skills! I did a little sketch over the top of the panoramic photo on the iPad to show you what I have planned. I am thinking of painting the ceiling, cove and walls bright white, and then adding a duck egg blue band around the top of the room. The bedding will be the blue duvet with striped sheets and denim pillow cases from Foxtrot home (kindly gifted) with some printed throw cushions that will match the tones in the cushions on the window seat. The window seat will have a dark grey/blue velvet squab on a white window seat. We'll have new bedside tables (I'm thinking of painting them in quirky colours - we'll see!) and the yellow details you see are actually gold. I have seen an amazing gold rug I'm pretty sold on, I'll let you know the second I get it! There will be a big piece of art over the bed with floating shelves on both sides over the side tables. Our wardrobe doors will be replaced with bifold doors which will give us lots of extra space. I do feel like I'm missing a pop of colour here, but I have an idea that might work for that...I'll tell you later!
So how am I doing so far? Any suggestions? I'd love to know if you have any recommendations for beautiful but functional side tables!
