I don't know about you, but for me, getting dressed isn’t always easy. I have been known to stand in the wardrobe for half an hour in my undies just staring at my clothes, waiting for inspiration to strike.
When it comes to packing for a trip, I’m even worse. Packing has been known to take me DAYS and then I usually don’t end up wearing any of it anyway.
BUT, since I started Dressing Up, I have developed a tried and true strategy – one of the wardrobe strategies I have written about in my ebook.
I am so so so excited, this weekend hubby and I are off to Melbourne for a few days and I cannot wait! I am not sure if I am most looking forward to the shopping or the sleeping. SO sleep deprived right now! Thanks kids ;)
The first thing on the agenda is going to see 'The Book of Mormon'. We are theatre buffs, James works in the theatre and that's how we met, so it will be the perfect thing for us to do on our first night there. There aren't a lot of shows we haven't seen, but this is one!
As you may have read (check out Part 1 here!) 4.5 years after moving into our house we are finally starting our bedroom makeover! It is all taking so much longer than I'd hoped (life, babies, work!) but I am finally getting somewhere! I started by selling our old bed frame, as it was completely overwhelming the room. I got $300 for it online, I was so pleased with that price!
Saying sorry can become a verbal tic. We say sorry when we want to ask a question, in awkward social situations, and often when we haven’t done anything wrong at all. Constantly apologising diminishes you and tells other people you think you are responsible for the current situation, or that what you have to say isn’t important. It also means when you really do need to apologise, your apology may not seem as meaningful.
As you can see, I am a HUGE fan of stripes. I wear horizontal stripes all the time - against the advice of many people in the fashion industry who insist they make you look fatter. Sigh.
Last year someone commented on my Instagram saying "If you wear vertical stripes you'll look much thinner". My reply? "I'm not trying to look thinner I'm trying to look like ME and I LOVE horizontal stripes, so I'm going to wear them." I think she was genuinely trying to be helpful, but her advice was based on the constant narrative we all hear that everything we wear should make us look smaller. Actually we just need to wear clothes that make us feel great.
We moved into our house when I was 7 months pregnant with Willow and renovated immediately - that's what you do during big life changing events, right ladies?!
And every room got a spruce up if not a total makeover - except our bedroom. It was pretty inoffensive, so we just decided to leave it while we got through having a newborn. Then we ran out of money...and had a second baby...you know where I'm going with this! So now Willow is 4 and Florence is 2, and I am seriously needing some sanctuary. And this cream room with zero space is just not doing it. Oh how I love a makeover!
Embellishments are everywhere this season, and for someone like me who believes 'more is more' it's thrilling!
You an even buy iron on patches for your jeans, like we used to have in the 80's. Except instead of the Care Bear variety, you can get beautiful florals and pop art patches.
I know you know this. But I love shiny things. I am a total magpie. And a couple of years ago after I decided I was going to wear whatever I liked, I started buying shiny things - a LOT. So, sequin is pretty much my middle name. There are some fabulous sequinned pieces out there and as you can see, I have been indulging!
Here are some fun ways to wear sequins - even in the day time!
Every year, Trelise Cooper has a huge outlet sale at their offices in Lion Road, Newmarket, in Auckland. I have never managed to go, but this year I finally made it!
And I am calling it now, this was the BEST sale I have ever been to! Now granted, Trelise suits my aesthetic perfectly. Sparkles, embellishments and beautiful fabrics galore. My Mum and friend Natalie also had a field day, want to see what I bought!?
You know those women who always look like they thoughtfully bought their entire outfit at once because it looks so perfectly put together?
Well here it is, the one easy step I use to pull my outfits together! Are you ready...?!
